The DUO2 project.
The project DUO2 started in February 2012 and constitutes the two attempts ”DUO-trailer” and ”DUO-CAT” which consists of four field test vehicles. The project has a permit for technical testing, which makes it possible to test longer and heavier combinations of trucks.

Efficiency and sustainability
The first attempt was ”DUO-trailer” which consists of one tractor, semi-trailer, dolly and semi-trailer. This combination is driving between Gothenburg and Malmö on the highway, E6, and on connecting roads to Schenker’s terminals in Gothenburg, Halmstad and Malmö. The attempt has been going on since February 2012 and has after ten years approximately travelled 1 400 000 km (March 2022). The DUO-trailer has double the amount of load compared to a European tractor with a single-trailer. Reductions in fuel consumption, carbon dioxide emissions, number of drivers and vehicles are other aspects that also makes the DUO-trailer advantageous, see picture below.
The second and later test, ”DUO-CAT”, started the 23rd March 2015 and consists of a truck with two Center Axle Trailers (CATs) each. The whole combination is 27.3 meters and begun driving single trips at night as DUO-CAT and was used for distribution during the day. The single trips at night as DUO-CAT gave about 52 000 kilometers. Phase two of the test started in September 2018 at Kinnarps AB where the combination has been driving 700 000 km as of March 2022.
If you were to compare different combinations with the same amount of cargo to be transported, the environmental impact would look different depending on the combination. Below is an example where different combinations carry 200 pallets with weight of 600 kg per pallet. The route goes from Malmö to Gothenburg.
